The 25th of December is less than a week away.
Is anyone else shocked by that?
I can still feel the hangover from last christmas and now here I am buying booze for the next one.
Between two families and all the KK’s I opted into, I have over twenty-five gifts to buy.
Twenty fucking five.
As a student, I don’t have the funds or the imagination to come up with that many original gifts so I’ve hit Google up for some inspiration.
There were some cracking ideas in the mix so I’ve gone ahead and put some of my favourites in one place:
The Get Your Shit Together Things:
Christmas is four days out from the New Year and people like to kick that shit off with some goals. They want to be organised and productive so it’s the best time to get them a sleek new diary or planner.
As a self-proclaimed stationary junkie, I’d say check out Mi Goals, their stuff is cute, affordable and full of motivational goodness.
The Tech Things:
If you’re anything like me, the battery on your phone is below 50% more than it is above it. I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I say a portable phone charger is a great gift, especially for the road tripper in your family.
At $60, the Nifty External Battery is a ripper. It’s small enough to fit in your Mimco pouch and comes in three awesome colours. The red is definitely my favourite!
Another great piece of tech is the Andatech breathalyser; it’s perfect for the pisshead who needs to check their blood alcohol concentration before they get behind the wheel this summer.
The Subscription Things:
Get your mate a gift that keeps on giving. From magazines to cheese platters you can be as whacky or as traditional as you like. I bought my cousin a sock subscription from Sock It Up Australia – how ridiculously cute is that!
The Fun Things:
People love going camping and spending time with their families over the holidays. Cards Against Humanity and Taboo are all the rage at the moment but you can always go back to the classics. Rummikub is still my all time favourite!
The recyclable things:
A KeepCup is a great gift for the coffee lover whose addiction is costing the earth. Clear their guilty conscience with a reusable takeaway cup from the KeepCup website. You can even customise the colours so they don’t look like a bloody dag.
The Memorable Things:
Buying an experience is purchasing a memory; it’s giving someone a story to recite for the rest of their lives.
Melbourne is electric during the summer so there are heaps of cool things to choose from.
Here are some of my personal favourites:
- Australian Open Tickets
- Moonlight Cinemas Pack
- Winery Tour
- White Water Rafting down the Yarra
- Peninsula Hot Springs
The Travel Things:
People spend a heap of time away between Christmas and New Year. A good duffle bag from Country Road is a great one to chuck your shit in and take off with.
Let them capture their vacation with a Fuji Instax camera from Kmart. Who doesn’t love a good polaroid!
The Motivational Things:
The New Year is a fresh slate. People are looking for inspiration on how to be the best, most positive and wholesome version of themselves. Books are the best place to find it. The three at the top of my wish list are “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck” by Mark Manson, “Purpose” by Lisa Messenger and “Not Just Lucky” by Jamila Rizvi.
Not into reading? Hop onto Etsy and get them a framed quote for their wall – you can even do some DIY stuff and put one together yourself.
The Personalised Things:
Who doesn’t love something with their initials stamped on it? Mon Purse is always a winner. I’m crushing on their personalised key chains at the moment. How fucking cute are the tassels!
You can even get a Nutella or a Vegemite personalised real cheap from Kmart for $9.
The Beauty Things:
If none of those ideas float your boat stick to a classic beauty package. With gorgeous pep talks on it’s packaging, Zoe Foster’s Go-To Skin Care package is a winner!
I could go on forever, but I’m going to stop there.
I truly hope some of these ideas get you out of a gift-giving rut because there’s nothing worse than going blank and running around a crowded shopping centre at this time of year.
Keep killing it,
